Top 5 rarest ships in the world

We are coming strong this time! And that’s because the nautical world is full of surprises. There are so many combinations of ship designs asamazing and extravagant as you could imagine. But this time we want to talk about the 5 rarest ships of the world and their peculiarities.

Let’s go!

It’s obvious that to even imagine these designs, you must be quite an original individual….and these boats are as original as they could be! But…Are they functional?

In the Top 1 we have… Earthrace, the futuristic ship!

This one is the living example of fully functional, and even eco-friendly, weird boat. And that’s why it’s on the top one! Its’ futuristic and innovative design stands out above any other ships.

It was built using eco-friendly technologies, using biofuel and biodiesel to run it, but without coming at expense of speed. In fact, in 2008, it managed to go around the world in just 60 days, 23 hours and 49 minutes, making it the fastest ship ever created.

Along the line of functional ships here we go with the Top 2… Bottsand Y 1643, the hinge boat.

We know what going through your mind right now…How in the world can a ship that splits in half be functional? Well, this ship is, in fact, design to collect waste and pollution from surface water. It works as a kind of “collector”, cleaning and removing up to 140 cubic meters of oil and fuel from the ocean.

After these two examples of the rarest ships of the world, that are also eco-friendly and functional, there is one more that could also fit in those two categories!

Coming in the Top 3, the Turanos PlanetSolar, the solar boat!

It’s at times like this when the expression “a picture is worth a thousand words” comes in handy. This catamaran is covered in 516 sq meters of solar panels, and on top of that it also has two deployable wings that allow it to maximize its’ energy harvesting potential. Thanks to this, it became the very first vehicle powered solely by solar energy to travel around the world, a voyage that took 584 days.

And talking about trips and journeys, here we have the next rare ship, and this one has a whole story behind it!

Coming in the Top 4… Cosmic Muffin, the plane ship!

It might be the most extreme case of recycling we have ever come across. This strange hybrid between a ship and a plane was built in 1939 and was owned by Howard Hughes. It’s airplane days ended in 1969, when a collector decided to give it a second life and turned it into this exotic boat with all the possible commodities in it. Its current owner is expecting to use it for charitable causes such as fundraising or educational projects. We are certain that this top 4 rare ships of the world have surprised you. The last one on the list is here to “turn heads” and leave you absolutely shocked!

In the top 5 we have… Flip, the vertical boat!

It might look like a sinking boat at a first glance, but don’t worry! Nothing further from reality, this laboratory vessel of the US Navy oversees studying the height of waves, collecting meteorological data, and measuring parameters such as the temperature and density of the water. To carry out these tasks, it can remain in vertical position in the middle of the ocean.
